Rumah Matisse is a 5 bedroom riverside beach villa, hidden in the heart of the traditional, seaside and exclusive fishermen village of Pantai Seseh on the southwest coast of Bali.
Strategically located over the border of a river, Rumah Matisse is surrounded by a forest of enormous sacred trees, pintoresque Balinese temples, and priviledge views of the ocean and Seseh Beach. The river, which flows between the beach and the swimming pool, and a small Balinese temple at the other side of the river, are the landmarks for this romantic villa.
The village, is surrounded by a government protected rice field's green belt and has become the preferred destination for high end customers, who prefer to live immersed in the untouched traditional Balinese culture; enjoying almost private and unspoiled beaches; riding the waves in Seseh Beach surfing spots; tasting fresh seafood provided directly from the fishermen; assisting to authentic Balinese ceremonies in the local temples, and relaxing in a tranquil atmosphere, without renouncing to the luxury of some of the most stylish Villas in Bali, and to the proximity of the busy areas of Kuta and Seminyak.
The large chillout lounge, sheltered by a timber roof and covered with large matresses and cushions is completed with low tables.
It is big enough for 15 people to lay down confortably, and is perfect for relaxing during the daytime, taking open air massages, or to gather with friends at night.
Swimming Pool & Gardens
The infinity-edge swimming pool, overflowing its water into the river, measures 23 m x 6 m and is 1,40 m in depth at the deepest end with a shallow shelf for children. It is fed by three small waterfalls and bordered by a timber deck. It also features a terrazzo platform that appears to float on the surface of the water, complete with daybeds and a serene Buddha statue, making this a delightful and peaceful spot for taking a relaxing sunbath.
The garden, together with the swimming pool, the chillout area, the temple, the river, and the ocean views as surrounding landscape, create a perfect romantic venue to host small intimate weddings and events of up to forty guests.
All of the first floor rooms open onto the breezy veranda, so this is the social hub of the villa, presenting a polished cement floor with a marbled effect. It is furnished with 2 sofas and a low table in front of the access to the kitchen, a dining table that can comfortably seat ten for an alfresco dining experience while viewing the ocean in real Bali style, and with a large ratan sofa with a circular cushion, perfect for reading, taking a nap after lunch. or relaxing while watching the views from the veranda.
At the back of the villa there is a private patio covered with grass, flowering shrubs, and tropical plants with a sitting Buddha statue presiding the area. This gardened patio gives natural light to the living room, the stairs, and to the internal balcony and pathway that connects both floors of the main building. It was also designed to keep the natural breeze from the sea running through the different rooms of the main building using a cross ventilation technique.
The Entertainment Room is located next to the hall on the ground floor; this snug is equipped with satellite TV, DVD player, stereo music system, free WiFi Internet access, a ceiling fan, a built-in desk, a large mirror, a large comfortable daybed from which the ocean views can be seen while laying down, and a large low wooden center table for more casual meals.
Kitchen & Laundry Room
The kitchen is also located on the ground floor next to the dining area and with direct access to the veranda; it is well equipped and fitted with glass-fronted silver-door wall cupboards. It is here were Iluh, the cook, will prepare delicious meals and freshly squeezed fruit juices.
The dining table is located next to the living room on the veranda, overlooking the views.
The laundry room, next to the kitchen, it is used by the staff to wash and iron the linen and also as the staff headquarters and storage area.

Rumah Matisse can accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 bedrooms.
On request and by surcharge, 2 junior extra beds for children under 12 years old can be provided. Both Junior extra beds are 1,80 m x 0,80 m.
A babycot is also available free of charge.
There are two master suites in the second floor of the main building, two independent bungalows at each side of the pool, and a fifth suite in the first floor of the main building. All suites and bungalows have air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms, and offer either King or Queen size beds.
Sunrise Master Suite
Accessed by a flight of polished concrete stairs at the back of the villa, the Sunrise Main Suite is the main master bedroom of the villa. It offers an air conditioned bedroom with the largest ensuite bathroom of the villa. The glassed folding doors on either side of the bedroom allows for cross ventilation during the day time, or during the night, in case the guests prefer the natural breeze from the sea.
This spacious suite features a white washed wooden floor and the high ceiling is made of timber painted in white.
The suite opens onto a wide balcony at the front, furnished with white rattan sofa whith ligt grey cushions and presents wonderful views of the garden, the swimming pool, the river, and the beach, which will lull guests to sleep with its peaceful melody.
This Master Suite is dominated by a built-in king-size bed canopied with a diaphanous mosquito net. It is furnished with comfortable arm chairs, a large center table. Built in closets and shelves inside the bathroom, boasts plenty of storage space and a safe deposit box.
The en-suite bathroom features a white polished cement floor, with a washbasin on a white polished cement vanity unit, a toilet, and a walk-in rain-shower.
Sunset Master Suite
Located also in the second floor of the main building, the Sunset Master Suite is also accesed from independent concrete stairs at the back of the villa, offering an air conditioned bedroom with an en-suite semi-open-air bathroom.
This suite is also flanked by glassed folding doors at either side of the bedroom. Some of these doors open to another section of the second floor balcony, where guests can enjoy the views of the swimming pool, the river and the beach.
The bedroom offers a King size bed, dressed with a mosquito net, a built in polished cement dressing table with shelves furnished with a large vanity mirror, and two wardrobes at each end of the table with a safe deposit box.
The en-suite semi-open-air bathroom features a black and white terrazzo tiled floor, a washbasin on a black polished concrete vanity unit, a toilet, and a rain-shower. Over the washbasin there is a large panoramic window strategically positioned so the guests can enjoy the wonderful views of the ocean when they wake up every morning.
The private lounge at the terrace is furnished with a comfortable sofa from where is able to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
First Floor Suite
This suite located in the first floor of the main building and accesible directly from the main beranda, is furnished with a queen size bed and built in closets and a practical desk all in white-cream polished cement, and is cooled by an air conditioning system and a ceiling fan.
During the daytime, the doors can be folded completely opening the bedroom to the views. The en-suite bathroom in this bedroom repeats the covered semi-opened air bathroom from the Sunset Master Suite upstairs: black and white tiled floor, a circular wall mirror, a washbasin on a black polished concrete vanity unit, a toilet and a rain-shower.
Sunrise Garden Suite
This air-conditioned suite is in fact a charming self-contained guesthouse, located at the garden level at one end of the swimming pool. It borders the river and is characterised by a wrap around veranda complete with polished cement pillars.
Guests can sit immediately beside the shady river, where they might spot kingfishers or giant water lizards. The bungalow is entered by antique teakwood double doors and features polished cement floors, a high timber roof, a queen-size bed, two practical polished cement desks, and two safe deposit boxes inside each bedside tables. Antique wooden shutters add to the rustic charm.
The adjoining bathroom located behind the built-in head of the bed, has a rain-shower, washbasin, a toilet, and two independent closets, all made in white polished cement.
Sunset Garden Suite
The Sunset Garden Suite is located at the other side of the pool opposite to the other bungalow with its own private pool deck. It is also next to the river, so guests can enjoy the constant sound of running water.
This bungalow is similar in style to the other bungalow as it is accesed through a covered veranda and through antique wooden doors, and is completed inside with white walls, a king-size bed dressed with a mosquito net, a long bead head acting as a shelve with two wardrobes at each end, air conditioning and a safe deposit box. The semi-opened-air en-suite bathroom is finished with polished cement walls and floors in different shades of grey, and includes a rain shower, a stainless steel washbasin over a black polished cement vanity, and a toilet.
It is remarkable the strategic opening left in the shower wall allowing to watch the beach and the ocean while taking a shower.
